Answer:
Zen cart are based on osCommerce
It is like Oscommerce with some more features, it is easier for coder beginers. And also,
it is more secure and has a dozens and dozens of more features built in so you don't need a bunch of contributions.
Anyway, some people like Oscommerce as it have larger community and a lot of contribution, so you can take only options that you need
